How long has it been? I don't really know.
Last Sunday I was sitting at church waiting for the sanctuary to clear out from the service before the English ministry and some teenagers came up to me and offered me a chocolate bar. "This is for you." They told me as they stood smiling awkwardly at me. "Why?" I asked. They said just because. It was the one kids birthday and he gave it to me. Just because I speak English. Most of the people I talk to are way smarter than me. They have so much knowledge and yet I am treated special and with the respect given to really smart people. Why? Because I speak English. I will never get used to that. Anyhow, I talked to these kids for half an hour and they just love to try and speak English and show what they know. They have never been to an English speaking country, but they speak English really well. Makes me wish I took French more seriously in school.
At school the other day I also got a present from a kid a teach. It is Chusok (Thanksgiving) weekend here and many people give gifts. Once again, because I speak English, I am "special."
Last week I went out with some coworkers and on the way back we took their car. Now, this is how Koreans always drive (or so I have experienced this every time I have driven with Koreans): They fit as many people in the car as possible, in this case, six adults and two kids (five seat-er car) and you drive all over the place on the road. They do not believe in seat belts. One time we were driving and the police were doing routine breath checks. There were six of us again in the car and they just stop you, the driver does the test and you go. Nobody was wearing seat belts, and a kid was on her moms lap in the front. Yes the front, they do not have baby seats (or at least, I have not seen them, and I have driven with lots of babies in the cars), and they put the baby in the front seat often. So different than Canada, eh?
I also went wedding dress shopping last weekend. Most people here have a wedding planner, and you go to wedding dress stores and try on three dresses at each store. You must then choose the store you want to buy your dress from, and you may then try on as many dresses as you want. Now, you cannot choose what three dresses you want to try on, you may tell them a preferred style, but they don't show you the dresses until you are wearing them.
This weekend, as i mentioned is Chusuk. I have Monday and Tuesday off from work. I am going to spend part of the weekend at my friends house 2hrs (by train) from Seoul.
Hope all is going well, and that you can see God in your lives constantly.
