Well, once again I have left blogging and a lot has happened, so here we go in short form, and not necessarily in order.
Funeral: My friend's dad passed away on the last Sunday of January. We got the call Sunday evening and headed to the hospital. The funeral's are held in the basement of the hospitals and you don't see the body, just a picture. Funeral's are three days here because traditionally Koreans believed the the spirit did not leave the body for three days, so they would come and bow to the picture and to the family to show respect. Well, this was a Christian family, so we just put flowers by the picture, pray and greet the family. Sunday night was the first 10min service. Monday there was a service and Tuesday morning was the final burial service.
The immediate family must stay at the funeral home for all three days because people come when ever they can to pay respects. My friend was the eldest male, so he had most of the responsibility so out of the three days, he only slept one hour. That is how busy it was.
I have now been to two funerals and two weddings while in Korea and hope to keep it at that.
Jennell, Steph and I went to the tallest building in South Korea one weekend as well. It was amazing. We were so high up and there was an art gallery on the top floor. I haven't been to an art gallery in awhile so poor Steph and Jennell had to wait for me, but they enjoyed looking at the pictures as well. We enjoyed a coffee while we were up there and near then end we heard music. We went to check i tout and a German couple was playing the violin and piano! So we enjoyed a free concert as well! Quite nice!
I have also celebrated my birthday. It was quite nice. Hannah, Hee Un (Korean friends from college), Jennell and I went to walk some traditional streets. We met the volunteer guide who was off, but took us to one carpenters house. It was amazing. It smelled like pine and the wood work was amazing. The house was just fitted together without screws, nails or glue! He apparently has window and door work in a famous treasure building by the Scene River near Paris. In the evening we went out and they surprised me (and the rest of the restaurant,) with a birthday cake and singing Happy Birthday!
On my birthday a bunch of people from work as well as Jennell went to On The Border, a really good Mexican restaurant here. So, all in all it was a nice birthday!
This past weekend I went to Wonju with Jennell to visit Amy and Kyle. Always a relaxing and fun filled time!
So that is what is going on with me right now. Feel free to let me know what you are up too!
God Bless! One and All!
